Zero To 100 At San Diego Surf Film Festival

Author: Transworld Surf

San Diego, CA (May 6, 2013) -After spending more than a week at the top of the iTunes Sports Movie list in April, filmmaker and San Diego local, Aaron Lieber gets set to showcase his inspiring film Zero to 100 on home ground. Lieber's powerful surf documentary charts the rise of professional surfer and 2012 US Open winner Lakey Peterson, who has been heralded as one of the most progressive women in surfing today. The film is part of the official selection at the San Diego Surf Film Festival which runs from May 8 -12 at Bird's Surf Shed. Zero to 100 is scheduled to screen at 3pm on May 12th as one of the closing films before the awards ceremony later that night.

Following it's successful iTunes and DVD release screening in Huntington Beach on April 20th the film received over 6,000 downloads in just a few days, from all corners of the globe. The Surf Channel commented "Beautifully shot -don't miss this! Lakey rocks!" while SurfGirl Magazine called Zero to 100 "A truly inspiring film."

"The response has been mind blowing and we are really excited for the upcoming screening at the San Diego Surf Film Festival" stated Lieber. "Ultimately I set out to make a film about one of the most formidable and inspiring people I know -who just happens to be one of the best female surfers in the world. You don't have to be into surfing to love this film.but it doesn't hurt either" laughed Lieber. In addition to this week's film festival in San Diego Zero to 100 has been selected at festivals in Hawaii and throughout Germany, with hopes of more official selections in the coming months.

As the first woman ever to complete an aerial in competition, Lakey is known for her athletic power and quick rise in the surf industry. However, Zero to 100 delves much deeper than most surf films and provides a very raw and intimate window into what life is really like on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour for a woman. Lieber has created a sports documentary masterpiece that poignantly reveals Lakey's struggles and triumphs as a surfer and as an individual. Stunning cinematography, supported by an exceptionally well composed playlist that showcases international artists like AWOLNATION, The Jezebels, and Donavon Frankenreiter, ensures audiences remain entranced throughout.

When asked what Lakey hoped to achieve through the film, she replied "My ultimate goal was to inspire people to go after their dreams and not let challenges stand in their way, or other people define who they are." As a professional speaker at youth empowerment events nationwide Lakey also commented "Life is about balance. For me the true gift in life is giving back to others, particularly kids in need. Professional surfing has opened a lot of doors in this regard." Peterson has a book due out later this year and is a committed philanthropist with plans to start her own non-profit in the near future.

Zero to 100 will feature at the San Diego Surf Film Festival on Sunday, May 12 from 3pm - 5pm as part of Set 9. Tickets for Set 9 are only $10 or $5 for students and include additional shorts plus food and drinks. You can purchase tickets through the festival website at SanDiegoSurfFilmFestival.com.
