Author: SurferToday.com

Bethany Hamilton and AnnaSophia Robb will receive Maverick Awards during the Cinequest Film Festival, on the 12th March. Hamilton will receive the special "Life of a Maverick Award" and AnnaSophia will be honoured with Cinequest’s "Emerging Maverick Award".

"Soul Surfer", the movie that tells the incredible life story of surfer Bethany Hamilton, will be closing the Cinequest Film Festival, at the California Theater, in San Jose, California.

AnnaSophia Robb plays the part of Bethany Hamilton in a surf movie where Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt are also starring. Based on Hamilton’s book, director Sean McNamara’s "Soul Surfer" captures the spirit and strength of a young woman's determination to overcome the loss of her arm, after an almost deadly shark attack.

Bethany recently launched her foundation "Friends of Bethany", which supports shark attack survivors, traumatic amputees and serves to inspire others through her life story.

Born into a family of surfers on the island of Kauai, Hawaii in 1990, Bethany began surfing at a young age. At the age of eight, Bethany entered her first surf competition winning both the short and long board divisions.

She was attacked when she was thirteen years and her incredible faith and positive spirit boosted a quick return to the waves, just one month after the accident, in pursuit of her dream of becoming a professional surfer. Watch the trailer for the "Soul Surfer" movie, here.

The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2011 will debut a new era in modern surfing. For the first time in the history of the sport, speed will be measured to crown the fastest surfer on Earth. It makes sense. Speed has always been considered, in one way or another, in competitive surfing. Managing a wave and its crucial sections requires speed management and the so-called 'flow'. Spectators have always unconsciously enjoyed the speed of a surfer in a small or giant wave. Surf judges, too. When a...

With a series of not less than six wave events scheduled for 2011, the battle will be fierce to win one of the coveted tour cards that will allow participation in the world championship finals. The second stage – the finals – will be run by the KiteSurf Pro (KSP), a new...

One of Sydney’s top kitesurfing spots, is under threat. The Sutherland Shire Council has plans to erect a fence along the foreshore of Silver Beach, Kurnell. A public meeting has been arranged with Council on Saturday, 12th February, at Bonna Point. Kitesurfers will show a strong support to persuade the council that...

The Original Windsurfer is going to promote the Class at the 14th Annual Dino Windsurfer National Championships, in USA. The event is organized by the "Dinos" and it's better than a time warp to the 80's. Why? Because it's a fun venue to sharpen your windsurfing skills in a relaxed event. And you can go as retro as you like. For instance, it's easy to spot a chest harness (circa late 70s), many vintage shirts and neon Windsurfer shirts. Way retro. The challenge is simple. Bring a stock...
