Occy and Dane at the Nike Lowers Pro

A ridiculously stacked field of the world's best surfers are set to take apart one of the sport's high-performance meccas, Lower Trestles. With the impressive roster of up-and-coming juniors looking hungry for valuable Prime ratings points, two of the most exciting entrants into this event are surfers that have already retired from the tour, Dane Reynolds and Mark Occhilupo.

Occy was granted a wildcard under "past world champ" status, and at age 46 he'll be surfing against guys less than half his age. A very promising forecast is great news for Occy, as you can bet a patented Occy-hack will thrill the judges after they've seen 378 air-reverses. Below is some video evidence that Occy is still ripping.

Also donning a rashie for the first time in months is Dane Reynolds. Dane seems to have a special place in his heart for Lowers, as he even did the event last year while on medical leave from the World Tour after knee surgery. This may be the last time we see Dane compete until the US Open this summer or even the next Quiksilver event in France this September. With the forecast calling for two solid swells, Dane should get more than a few opportunities to remind us why he's considered the best freesurfer on the planet.
