Men’s Competition Again Postponed
Author: ASP World Tour
Tuesday, November 25, 2003 (
Sunset Beach, Haw) The Rip Curl Cup was again postponed this morning due to small surf. The US$250,000 World Championship Tournament (WCT) will commence with a 32-man Rip Curl Cup Trials event as soon as conditions allow, while at nearby
Turtle Bay this afternoon, the final women’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) event of 2003 is set to conclude.
Clean 4ft (1.5m) surf is on offer today throughout
Oahu’s north shore, but Sunset’s deep-water offshore reef requires twice the swell to produce its famed walls.
In other news, six-time world champion and current ratings leader
Kelly Slater (FL,
USA) is yet to officially become surfing's first millionaire prize-money earner. Following his semi-final finish in the Vans Hawaiian Pro last week, the Floridian earned enough money to break the US$1,000,000 mark, but apparently is in no rush to officially claim the record as he has not yet collected his prize money from the event.
Another decision will be made tomorrow morning by 7am (local time) as the Rip Curl Cup’s schedule.
The Vans Triple Crown Series features the world's top athletes competing in three championship events in each of the following sports: Skateboarding, Wakeboarding, Surfing, Snowboarding, BMX and Freestyle Motocross. The Series is made possible through the support of Vans, the Xbox video game system from Microsoft, Mountain Dew, Ford Trucks, Right Guard Xtreme Sport, Fox Sports Net,
Surfing Magazine and NBC Sports.
